Franklin earns second place finish in state tournament

ALEXANDRIA _ The Franklin All-Stars earned a second place finish in the 2012 (2 out of 3) State Tournament Majors here Friday and Saturday at the Johnny Downs Sports Complex.

Franklin posted a 1-2 overall record against Girard Park of New Orleans in State Tournament action.

Franklin Coach Paul Frost praised his team for an excellent showing.

“These kids fought hard and battled all the way,” he said. “I couldn’t be prouder of them.”

Franklin captured the 2012 District III Majors Championship along with the 2012 South Regional Tournament Majors Title. Franklin also won the Sportsmanship Award while winning the South Regional Tournament Championship. Franklin secured a second place in the 2012 (2 Out of 3) State Majors Tournament as there were 96 teams the state in the all-star season.

In Friday’s 2012 (2 out of 3) State Tournament, Girard Park opened action with a 7-2 win over Franklin.

Franklin fought back on Saturday morning behind the superb pitching from Noah Judice to earn a 13-0 victory over Girard, forcing the deciding third game in the 2 out of 3 tournament.

In Saturday’s rubber game, Girard Park gained the upper hand early on the way to a 15-6 win to claim the 2012 (2 Out of 3) State Tournament Majors Title.


Girard Park of New Orleans managed to post a 7-2 win over Franklin in the opening game of the State Tourney.

Franklin scored its runs in the first and fifth frames with timely hitting.

Girard Park built up a 6-0 lead before Franklin struck back with two runs.

In the first inning, Franklin’s Chase Mensman ripped a double before Brian Sonnier plated him with an RBI-single.

In the fifth frame, Jack Vaccarella, Noah Judice and Brock Broussard all lined singles with Vaccarella tagging home plate with the run.


Franklin pitcher Noah Judice tossed a no-hitter, leading Franklin to a 13-0 victory over Girard on Saturday morning.

Judice silenced Girard’s batters, firing a history-making no-hitter in the process. Judice turned in a masterful performance on the mound, mowing down Girard Park in order while tossing a pitching gem.

“I don’t know if a no-hitter has ever been thrown before in the state tournament, but he did an amazing job,” Franklin Coach Paul Frost said. “He (Judice) got one of the couple of no-hitters in the state tournament if there have ever any no-hitters in the state tournament.”

Spurred on by the outstanding pitching of Judice, the Franklin hitters came to life in the fourth inning, supporting Judice with six runs in the fourth frame.

Keying Franklin’s fourth-inning rally were Brock Broussard, Jack Vaccarella, Josh Frost, Brent Ina and Mason Mendoza.

Broussard lined a single before Vaccarella smacked a double, putting runners in scoring position. Frost was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ina belted a two-run single before Mendoza slapped a bases-clearing triple to give Franklin a 6-0 advantage in the fourth inning.

Franklin padded its lead in the fifth frame with seven runs en route to the 13-0 victory.

Jack Vaccarella and Brian Sonnier collected a pair of hits in the inning to ignite Franklin’s seven-run rally.

Vaccarella and Sonnier sparked the uprising with consecutive hits before Ina, Mensman, Mendoza and Kade Daigle all joined the hit parade. Before the dust cleared, Vaccarella and Sonnier returned to home plate for additional singles, lifting Franklin to the 13-0 victory.


Girard Park won the State Tournament Title with a 15-6 win over Franklin in the rubber game of the best 2 out of 3.

Girard took advantage of five Franklin pitchers, building a 10-0 advantage before pulling out the 15-6 win.

Franklin sliced Girard Park’s 10-0 lead to 10-3 in the second inning.

Brock Broussard, Jack Vaccarella and Brian Sonnier all tagged home plate following timely hitting by the Franklin batters.

Broussard, Vaccarella and Sonnier all lined singles before Josh Frost delivered Broussard with his RBI-single. Brent Ina scored Vaccarella and Sonnier on a two-run double as Franklin narrowed the gap to 10-3.

Franklin fought back with three more runs to slice Girard Park’s lead down to 10-6.

Fueling Franklin’s charge were clutch hits by Devin Arton, Skyler Fitch, Noah Judice, Mason Mendoza and Kade Daigle. Arton blasted a double that banged off the fence before Fitch and Judice cracked singles. Mendoza’s RBI single set the stage for Daigle two-run single which enabled Franklin to whittle Girard’s advantage to 10-6.

Girard retaliated with five additional runs to post the 15-6 win and claim the state tournament title.

The Franklin 2012 11-12-year-old All-Stars are: Brent Ina, Peyton Trahan, Kade Daigle, Brian Sonnier, Jack Vaccarella, Devin Arton, Noah Judice, Josh Frost, Brock Broussard, Chase Mensman, Mason Mendoza and Skyler Fitch. Coaches are Paul Frost, Clint Judice and Ryan Fitch.
