Flores' work is recognized
CHALMETTE — Morgan City Daily Review and Franklin Banner-Tribune outdoor columnist John Flores took home five first place Excellence in Craft awards Saturday evening at the 2012 Louisiana Outdoor Writers Associations’ annual conference.
Flores’ first place awards were in Full Feature Magazine, Newspaper, Black and White Photography, Color Photography and Electronic categories. Flores also placed third in newspaper.
“It’s very humbling to win one award, let alone several with a room full of such gifted, talented and tremendous writers and photographers who daily promote our state and its outdoor diversity and opportunities,” Flores said. “Every article and every picture these members of the media publish are designed to evoke an emotion. I’d hate to be one of the judges.”
According to LOWA EIC Chairman Bo Boehringer, members of the Ohio Outdoor Writers Association judged the entries in a double blind format submitted for this year’s contest.
Flores, a freelance writer and nature photographer, is also a contributing writer for Louisiana Sportsman and Acadiana LifeStyle magazines. His past newspaper columns can be seen at www.stmarynow.com.
