Final 3 Morgan City police chief candidates announced

MORGAN CITY, La. — Mayor Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi narrowed the potential police chief candidate field from six to three candidates Friday afternoon.

Grizzaffi selected Lt. James Blair, Lt. Travis Crouch and Sgt. Teddy Liner as the final three candidates.

The original six candidates had included Cpt. Mike Banks, Assistant Chief Glenn Blanco and Cpt. Mike Marino.

“We had six qualified candidates. All six guys did a tremendous job in the interview process,” Grizzaffi said during a press conference Friday.

Grizzaffi said he did “extensive research” on the candidates and took phone calls from citizens and fellow law enforcement officials.

All six candidates will remain employed with the city and Blanco will retain his position as assistant chief, Grizzaffi said.

Grizzaffi plans to announce the new police chief at the City Council meeting on Feb. 26. The council must also approve Grizzaffi’s appointment.

“No guy is a favorite right now. I think all three guys could sure end up your next chief,” Grizzaffi said.

“This is a city decision. I’m just the appointing authority,” he said.

Blair has been with the department for 27 years. Crouch has been on the force for 22 years, and Liner for 18 years.

“I think to get this department going, we really need to reset the deck. And that’s why you noticed the three guys that made the finals are the young guys,” he said.

“I don’t know much about police work, but it’s an administrative position, and we’re making our decision based on that.”
