FEMA center opens at Morgan City

MORGAN CITY, La. -- A FEMA Disaster Recovery Center opened today at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium.
This is an office where applicants may go for information about the Federal Emergency Management Agency or other disaster assistance programs as well as for questions related to their cases. The office will be open for two weeks or more, depending on need, Office of Emergency Preparedness Director Duval Arthur said.
The DRC is open until 6 p.m. today and will be open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., seven days a week.
Meanwhile, Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program application sites in St. Mary Parish include both Amelia and Franklin. DSNAP is available for residents who suffered losses from Hurricane Isaac and meet income eligibility requirements.
The Amelia site is at the Amelia Community Center.
Applications are being scheduled by last name: H-L, today; A-Z, Tuesday; and A-Z, Wednesday.
The Franklin site is located at the Franklin Recreation Center on Gum Street.
Applicants at the Franklin site by last name and date are: H-L, today; A-M, Tuesday; and N-Z, Wednesday.
Both sites are open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Applicants should bring identification and proof of residency.
To help expedite the application process, individuals can pre-apply through Tuesday online either at www.dcfs.la.gov/preapply or www.getagameplan.org or by calling 1-888-524-3578, 24 hours a day. When applying by phone, callers should select the appropriate language and then select options 3 and 3.
