Eagles, Lady Eagles roll past Gueydan

The Central Catholic Eagles and Lady Eagles continued their district dominance with blowout wins against the Gueydan Bears and Honeybears in District 8-1A action on Monday at the Matchbox.
The Eagles defeated the Bears, 98-31, while the Lady Eagles defeated the Honeybears, 64-27.
Both CCHS squads used points off turnovers to pull away from their district counterparts.
In the boys’ game, Central Catholic raced out to a 28-8 lead after one quarter and extended the advantage to 52-15 at the half.
In the third quarter, the Eagles continued to pour it on, outscoring the Bears 13-5 in the third quarter for a 63-20 advantage.
The Eagles closed out the game with a 35-11 fourth-quarter burst.
Eleven CCHS players scored in the rout.
Lloyd Grogan led the CCHS offense with 22 points, two blocks, one steal, three assists and 11 rebounds, while Jovon Johnson added 16 points, five steals, two assists and two rebounds.
Dontrell Brown added 12 points, two blocks, two steals, 10 assists and eight rebounds; Brent Green, eight points, two blocks, five steals and seven rebounds and seven assists; Tyler Hoffpauir, seven points, three rebounds, one assist and five steals; Josh Singleton, six points, five assists, four steals and seven rebounds; Lamar Grogan, six points, one block, one steal, one assist and seven rebounds; Tyler Louviere, six points, three steals, two assists and two rebounds; David Brown, six points and four rebounds; Nick Case, five points, three steals, two assists and a rebound; Luke Landry, four points, one steal, two assists and two rebounds; and Kendall Robinson, five rebounds and two steals.
In the girls’ matchup, the Lady Eagles scored 21 points before Gueydan finally scored with 2:27 left in the first quarter.
CCHS led 26-4 after one quarter and continued to pad its lead, while allowing its bench to play in the second quarter.
At the half, CCHS led 34-7.
The first half also featured just one foul called on either team when it was called on CCHS with 50.3 seconds left.
CCHS outscored Gueydan 11-6 in the third quarter for a 45-13 advantage, and concluded the game with a 19-14 fourth-quarter run for the final.
Randi Brown led CCHS with 25 points, one block, six steals, three assists and five rebounds, while Meo Knight finished just short of a quadruple double with 16 points, one block, 14 steals, seven assists and 10 rebounds.
