DWI, simple battery arrests mark Mardi Gras weekend
St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s deputies made one DWI arrest and one arrest for simple battery along a parade route over the Mardi Gras weekend and received numerous loud music complaints, but nothing out of the ordinary, said the sheriff’s office spokeswoman.
Sheriff’s deputies also made two arrests for open containers.
“Alcohol is always an issue during Mardi Gras. That’s probably the biggest challenge we face as a department is getting people to celebrate responsibly and just the things that come along with that,” said Traci Landry, the sheriff’s public information officer.
The sheriff’s office also received a lot of loud music complaints over the weekend in the Bayou Vista area, in Cypremort Point and Amelia, she said. “That could probably be attributed to the fact that everybody’s celebrating Mardi Gras into the evening hours,” she said.
Morgan City police did not make any parade-related arrests over the weekend, said Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Glenn Blanco. Morgan City police made two DWI arrests from over the weekend.
