District 2 maintenance projects: $540,000

CENTERVILLE — Review and approval of funds for Maintenance District 2 comprised of seven schools in central St. Mary Parish were cut and dried Monday during a committee session that wrapped up in less than 30 minutes.

Expenditures for the 2012-13 school year recommended by Maintenance Supervisor Brad Wiese totaled $301,956 prior to the addition of a few special requests by principals. Capital expenditures recommended by Wiese totaled $190,000.

Items added and approved by the committee included:

—A 20-foot by 20-foot cemented play area for pre-K students at Hattie Watts Elementary, $2,500; as well as the relocation of the parking area, $30,000.

—Purchase of a new Promethean board for Berwick Junior High, $6,000.

—Field house improvements at Berwick High, $20,000.

Other major expenditures included in the original total were:

—Replacement of four classroom door frames at Hattie Watts, $8,000.

—Removal of five trees to prevent building damage at Patterson Junior High, $9,000.

—Replacement and conversion of the fire alarm panel at Bayou Vista Elementary, $13,000.

—Upgrade of classroom lighting at BHS, $15,000.

Capital expenditures approved included set-asides for eventual replacement of boilers and pumps at Hattie Watts, $40,000; and at Bayou Vista Elementary, $45,000.

Capital funds were also set aside for eventual replacement of HVAC units at Patterson High and Berwick High in the amounts of $33,000 for each school.

The Maintenance District 3 Committee covering eastern St. Mary Parish schools is set to meet today at 5 p.m.
