Day of family fun awaits at annual Zoo to Boo
Zoo to Boo Family Fun Day, an annual event supporting and celebrating Red Ribbon Week, will be held Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Morgan City Barnyard Zoo.
The event is preceded by the Red Ribbon Week Parade of Schools. The walk from Tampico’s parking lot down Victor II Boulevard to the zoo begins at 10 a.m. Prizes are awarded for the best school drug-free cheer and best school drug-free banner.
At Zoo to Boo, low cost games and activities, Halloween treat bags for youngsters, concessions and a Halloween costume contest await participants.
It should be noted though, that if it weren’t for parish 4-H clubs, this event would not be possible.
Primarily it is 4-H clubs from parish elementary and junior high schools who work feverishly to provide game and activity booths to thrill youngsters in attendance. Games and activities range from beanbag throwing to face painting.
Cannata’s Family Market provides Halloween cakes, and McDonald’s provides a cookie treat that is found inside the Halloween trick-or-treat bag provided by St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert.
Meanwhile, the Knights of Columbus offers its assistance in providing hamburgers and hot dogs for the concession stand.
The Junior Auxiliary of East St. Mary sponsors the ever-popular Halloween costume contest, which begins at noon.
Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place winners in each of the four age categories:
—Birth to age three.
—Prek-kindergarten and kindergarten.
—First through third grades.
—Fourth and fifth grades.
Games, activities and the concession stand are nominally priced to allow families to spend quality time with children without having to spend a fortune.
Any proceeds from the event benefit St. Mary Outreach and the Red Ribbon Committee. Cost to enter is $1.
