Crochet Memorial tourney is held
The Bayou Horseshoe Pitcher's Association hosted the Jerry Crochet Memorial Horseshoe Tournament June 8 at Kemper Williams Park near Patterson.
Angela Percle of Morgan City took the top spot in Class A with a 5-1 mark. She recorded a 52.5 ringer percentage. She also took home the tournament championship.
Tanner Pousson of Lacassine won Class B with a 5-2 mark. He had a 43.2 ringer percentage.
Kevin Dore’ Sr. of Patterson won Class C with a 5-0 mark. He had a 40.6 ringer percentage.
Eddie Guidry of Port Allen won Class C with a 3.5-1.5 record. His ringer percentage was 26.5
In Class E, Ryan Fryou of Berwick won the event with a 6-1 mark. He had 17.1 ringer percentage.
Classes A, B and E were won via playoffs.
In Class A, Percle and second-place finisher Ron Latiolais of Gonzales finished tied and Percle took the top spot with a 40-shoe playoff game for the class and tournament title.
Latiolais finished 4-2 with a 50.8 ringer percentage.
In Class B, there was a four-way tie after regulation, and in the playoffs, Pousson defeated Linda Dodson of Morgan City, while Sharla Fontenot of Lacassine defeated Mary Begnaud of Lacassine.
Pousson defeated Fontenot for the class champion, while Dodson defeated Begnaud for third place.
Fontenot finished the tournament 4-3 with a 45.3 ringer percentage, while Dodson finished with a 4-3 mark and a 37.9 ringer percentage.
In Class E, there was a three-way tie after regulation. Travis Hebert of Morgan City drew a bye. Fryou defeated Sebastian Langley of Lacassine in a 40-shoe playoff before defeating Hebert in another 40-shoe playoff.
Hebert finished in second place in Class E with a 4-2 mark and a 13 ringer percentage, while Langley finished 4-2 with a 4.5 ringer percentage.
Other competitors included Tim Gilmore of Bayou Vista, who placed third in Class A with a 3-2 mark and a 50.2 ringer percentage, while Clyde Landry of Pierre Part and Jimmy Percle of Morgan City finished second and third, respectively, in Class C. Landry recorded a 3.5-1.5 record and a 29.4 ringer percentage, while Percle finished 3-2 with a 30 ringer percentage.
In Class D, Randy Giroir of Berwick finished second with a 3-2 mark and a 20.5 ringer percentage, while Martin Fernandez of Harahan finished third with a 3-2 mark and a 19 ringer percentage.
Proceeds were donated to the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association Hall of Fame in honor of Jerry Crochet and other deceased members of the Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association.
