Woman arrested for reckless operation after texting while driving

A 33-year-old Morgan City woman was arrested Monday after St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s deputies saw a vehicle swerve on the road, and she told deputies she was texting while driving, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
Heather Guillory, 33, of the 200 block of Aristotle Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:56 a.m. Monday for reckless operation of a motor vehicle, possession of Schedule III (Lortab), and possession of a Legend Drug without a prescription (trazadone)
A deputy watched a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed swerve onto the shoulder of the road before re-entering the far lane of the roadway on U.S. 90, Hebert said. The deputy conducted a traffic stop in Berwick and made contact with the driver who was identified as Guillory. When asked why she was driving in a reckless manner, Guillory told the deputy she was texting. The deputy received consent to search the vehicle and located several pills, Hebert said. Guillory was unable to provide a prescription for the drugs. She was taken to the parish jail and held. She was released on $4,000 bail.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 40 complaints during a 24-hour period in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Tammy Canty, 47, of the 1200 block of Siracusa Road in Siracusaville, was arrested at 10:06 p.m. Monday on a warrant for issuing worthless checks. A deputy patrolling the Amelia area observed a female in a vehicle parked at a business on Siracusa Road. The deputy made contact with the female, identified as Canty, and learned of the warrant for her arrest. Canty was released on a summons to appear in court on Jan. 10.
—James P. Voisin, 28, of the 100 block of Watson Street in Patterson, was arrested at 2:49 a.m. today on two warrants for failure for driving under suspension and having an unlit license plate light. A deputy patrolling the Bayou Vista area made contact with a person outside of the Plantation Inn. The person was identified as Voisin who held two active warrants for his arrest. Voisin was taken to the parish jail and held. Bail is set at $15,000.
Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests:
—Didier M. Sanchez, 32, of Trevino Street in Berwick, was arrested at 2:01 a.m. Saturday for driving while intoxicated, no driver’s license, driving left of center, and speeding.
While on patrol, officer observed a vehicle speeding in the area of Brashear Avenue. Upon trying to catch up with the vehicle, the officer observed the vehicle cross the center line several times. Upon vehicle stopping, officer spoke to the driver, Sanchez. Sanchez exhibited signs of being impaired and did poorly on a field sobriety test. He was taken to the Morgan City Police Department where he submitted to a test which indicated a blood alcohol concentration of .125 grams-percent. Sanchez was taken to the Morgan City Jail where he remains.
—Elder Auturo Corado Salzar, 36, of Morgan City, was arrested at 3:52 a.m. Sunday for no driver’s license and no seat belt.
While on patrol in the area of Second and Greenwood streets, an officer observed a vehicle that appeared to be stopped in the middle of the intersection with the subject revving the motor. As the officer approached the vehicle they observed that the driver, Salzar, was not wearing his seat belt. The officer conducted a traffic stop and found that Salzar did not have a driver’s license. He was taken to Morgan City Police Department Jail where he remains.
—Jermoud E. Watts, 23, of Brashear Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:05 a.m. Monday on a warrant for theft less than $300.
While on patrol in the area of Fourth and Greenwood streets, an officer observed a person walking on the sidewalk. Upon the subject seeing the officer, he attempted to hide his face as the officer was passing. An officer stopped to investigate and found that Watts was a wanted person with the Morgan City Police Department. Subject was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department Jail where he is still incarcerated. The warrant alleges that Watts stole a cell phone and a pre-paid cellular phone card.
—Antonio Giandelone, 26, of Little Flower Lane in Morgan City, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and reckless operation.
Officers were summoned to the U.S. 90 area in regard to a vehicle crash. Upon arrival officers located a vehicle resting against the retaining wall with damages. Upon speaking to the driver, Giandelone, officers detected that he was exhibiting signs of being impaired.
Officers spoke to witnesses and were advised that prior to the crash the vehicle driven by Giandelone was observed driving in a reckless manner by passing vehicles at a high rate of speed. Upon passing a vehicle, Antonio over corrected causing vehicle to hit the retaining wall where it came to rest. Antonio was given a field sobriety test in which he did poorly. Subject was placed under arrest and transported to Morgan City Police Department where he submitted to a test which indicated a blood alcohol concentration of .000 grams-percent. Giandelone submitted to a urine test. The results of those tests are pending. Giandelone was taken to the Morgan City Jail where he remains.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests.
—Dustin Blevins, 28, of the 400 block of Kirk Street in Delcambre, was arrested at 2:35 p.m. Saturday for possession of methamphetamine Schedule II, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Blevins was taken to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.
—Gordon Tyrone Jr., 50, of the 1900 block of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 4:13 p.m. Sunday for hit and run driving and careless operation. He was released on bail.
—Jose Trevino III, 23, of the 200 block of Trevino Street in Berwick, was arrested at 10:54 p.m. Sunday for possession of marijuana and license plate light required. Trevino was released on bail.
—James Voisin, 28, of the 400 block of Kyle Street in Berwick, was arrested at 12:20 a.m. today for simple criminal damage to property and released.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Scott Louviere, 29, of the 1300 block of Irish Bend Road in Franklin, was arrested at 12:16 p.m. Monday for theft more than $18,000. Bail is set at $5,000.
—Christopher A. Oubre, 18, of the 100 block of La. 182 East in Morgan City, was arrested at 1 a.m. today for speeding 80 mph in a 35 mph zone. Oubre was released on $315 bail.
—Antoinette H. Russell, 56, of the 600 block of Kem Street in Patterson, was arrested at 6:45 p.m. Monday for disturbing the peace intoxicated. Russell is being held on $410 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
—Jeremiah Wiltz, 26, of the 500 block of North University in Lafayette, was arrested at 3:13 p.m. Friday for simple battery involving domestic abuse. Wiltz was taken to jail with no bail set at this time.
—Paris A. Smith, 24, of the 1300 block of Ninth Street in Patterson, was arrested at 4:12 p.m. for simple battery involving domestic abuse. Smith is still being held with no bail set yet.
—Henry Rodriguez, 42, of the 600 block of Easy Street in Patterson, was arrested at 3:47 p.m. Saturday for a New Jersey warrant. Rodriguez was taken to jail and held with no bail set yet.
