Staff Report

Police are searching for a 27-year-old Verdunville man wanted for attempted second degree murder stemming from a March 30 shooting in Morgan City that left two people wounded, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
Alton M. Kemp Jr., 27, whose last known address is Verdun Lane in Verdunville, is wanted for attempted second degree murder. Kemp is 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds.
Police responded to the area of Railroad Avenue and 11th Street at about 10:30 p.m. March 30 in regard to a shooting.
One victim, Lawrence Blackburn, 36, of Morgan City, received a single gunshot wound to the lower chest area, Banks said. The second victim, Dwayne Clark, 36, of Morgan City, received a gunshot wound to the hand area, Banks said.
Clark was the victim of a shooting reported in the same area on March 15. Clark suffered injuries to his face during that shooting. Police have not found anything connecting the March 30 shooting with the March 15 shooting, Banks said.
Anyone with any information regarding Kemp’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Morgan City Police Department Detective’s Division at 985-384-2310, 911, or the local law enforcement agency.
