Sheriff: Man arrested for crack cocaine after running over detective’s foot with vehicle

Morgan City man arrested for domestic abuse

A Morgan City man was arrested Wednesday after he refused to stop a vehicle and ran over a St. Mary Parish narcotics detective’s foot, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Jonathan Anthony Mayea, 28, of the 1500 block of Chestnut Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:21 p.m. Wednesday for possession of crack cocaine, aggravated battery on a police officer with a vehicle, flight from an officer, littering, improper lane usage and no turn signal.
Narcotics division detectives watched a vehicle fail to use a turn signal when turning on to James Street in Siracusaville. Detectives also observed the vehicle cross the center line of the roadway several times. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver who was identified as Mayea.
When asked to put the vehicle in park, Mayea accelerated, running over a detective’s foot, Hebert said. Detectives pursued Mayea to Siracusa Road where he was stopped. Detectives located cocaine inside the vehicle, Hebert said. Mayea was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Gregory Parker, 19, of the 1500 block of Bernice Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:53 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for domestic abuse battery, simple criminal damage to property, and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling. A deputy made contact with Parker on Bowman Street in Morgan City and learned of the warrant for his arrest. The warrants stem from an investigation into the battery of a female that began on Sept. 30. No bail is set.
—Christine Crane, 43, of the 800 block of Parish Road 151 in Verdunville, was arrested at 11:31 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for criminal trespass. A deputy located Crane at her residence on the warrant. She was taken to the parish jail and held. Crane was later released on $1,000 bail.
—Christopher Oubre, 18, of the 100 block of La. 182 East in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 12:46 p.m. Wednesday for possession of schedule I (marijuana).
—Danny Blair II, 19, of the 100 block of Landry Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 12:48 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for theft.
A deputy patrolling the Bayou Vista area observed a driver without a seatbelt and conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Saturn and Moon roads. Upon making contact with the driver, identified as Oubre, the deputy observed small pieces of marijuana throughout the vehicle. The deputy received consent to search the vehicle and located a leftover piece of a marijuana cigarette commonly referred to as a “roach,” Hebert said. Oubre was released on a summons to appear in court on Jan. 10. He was also ticketed for not wearing a seatbelt.
Blair was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Oubre. During the investigation, the deputy learned of the warrant for Blair’s arrest. The warrant stems from an investigation into the theft of gold jewelry from a residence in Bayou Vista. Blair was linked to the theft through a local jewelry shop where he attempted to sell the stolen items. Blair was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.
—Demetrius Green, 24, of the 600 block of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:33 p.m. Wednesday for theft of goods. A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. During the investigation, the deputy learned from store personnel that Green was observed taking a memory card from the packaging and concealing it on his person. Green then attempted to leave the store without paying for the item. He was released on a summons to appear in court on Jan. 10.
—Ashley Jennies, 26, of the 1500 block of Ohio Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:37 p.m. Wednesday for theft of goods. A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. Upon arrival, the deputy learned from store personnel that Jennies was seen taking two rings and concealing them in her pocket. Jennies then attempted to leave the store without paying for the items. She was released on a summons to appear in court on Jan. 10.
—Jesse Hart, 21, of the 400 block of Blum Street in Berwick, was arrested at 7:23 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court on the charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Hart turned himself in to a deputy at the Morgan City jail. He was taken to the parish jail and held. Bail is set at $100,000.
Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests:
—Laura Watson Fabre, 25, of Levee Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:23 a.m. Wednesday for speeding, on a warrant for expired license plate, on a warrant from Jefferson Parish for failure to appear, possession of marijuana, violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance law, and operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.
Officers patrolling the school zone area near Maitland School observed a vehicle speeding in the area of Leona Street and Federal Avenue. The officer stopped the vehicle and came into contact with the driver, Fabre. Fabre was additionally charged with possession of the controlled dangerous substance within a school zone. She was taken to the Morgan City Police Department and released after posting $2,600 bail.
—Tammy Lynn Wilson, 42, of Morgan City, was arrested at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday for improper lane usage, operating a vehicle while intoxicated third offense, possession of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, possession of synthetic marijuana, possession of schedule IV controlled dangerous substance-Carisoprodol, and possession of schedule II controlled dangerous substance-Hydrocodone.
Officers were summoned to the La. 182 area in regards to an impaired driver and located a vehicle fitting the description headed east on La. 182, Crouch said. The vehicle was being operated in an erratic manner. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but the vehicle continued on, leaving the city limits and finally stopping in the Siracusaville area near James Street, Crouch said.
The driver, Wilson, exhibited signs of being impaired and failed a field sobriety test. Officers also located several pills of Carisoprodol and Hydrocodone in her possession. She was also found to possess an open container of alcoholic beverage in her vehicle along with a green vegetable matter believed to be synthetic marijuana. She was taken to the Morgan City Police Department where she submitted to an Intoxilyzer. The results of those tests are pending. She remains in the Morgan City Jail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Shantell Blackburn-Gant, 43, of the 400 block of Cleveland Street in Patterson, was arrested at 8:37 a.m. Wednesday for disturbing the peace intoxicated. Blackburn-Gant is being held on $400 bail.
—Cornelius Gant, 56, of the 400 block of Cleveland Street in Patterson, was arrested at 8:53 a.m. Wednesday for violation of a protective order and simple battery. Gant is still being held with no bail set yet.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
