Man sought after escaping during interview at sheriff’s office

A 25-year-old man escaped from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City this afternoon after walking out of the interviewing area, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
Chad Williams, 25, was arrested on warrants for illegal possession of stolen things is also wanted on a warrant for theft by fraud and simple escape.
Detectives investigating a complaint of stolen jewelry learned that Williams had sold the items at a local pawn shop, the release stated.
During the investigation at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City, Williams walked out of an interviewing area leaving the building on foot at about 12:45 p.m. today, the release stated.
Williams was last seen wearing a brown polo style shirt and dark blue jeans, the release stated.
A be on the lookout notification has been issued and a search is being conducted, according to the news release. Anyone with information on Williams' whereabouts may contact the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office or area law enforcement authorities. An investigation into the circumstances of Williams’ escape is under way, the release stated.
