Gibson man arrested for DWI after hit and run crash investigation

A 58-year-old Gibson man was arrested Tuesday for DWI second offense after deputies were flagged down by a person who provided a description of a vehicle that struck the Amelia bridge, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
Ricardo Blanchard, 58, of the 100 block of Geraldine Road in Gibson, was arrested at 9:34 p.m. Tuesday for driving while intoxicated second offense. 
While patrolling Amelia, a deputy was flagged down by a person who stated that a vehicle struck the Amelia bridge. Using the description provided by the witness, the deputy located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Lake Palourde Road. The driver was identified as Blanchard. While speaking with Blanchard, the deputy smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, Hebert said. Blanchard performed poorly on a field sobriety test and later registered .145 grams-percent on a breath test, Hebert said. Blanchard was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set. The investigation into the hit and run crash was turned over to Louisiana State Police Troop C.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 42 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in or pertaining to east St. Mary Parish:
—Shaljup Williams, 23, of the 300 block of Ellis Street in Patterson, was arrested at 11:08 p.m. Tuesday for possession of Schedule II (crack cocaine), possession of drug paraphernalia, and improper lane usage. A deputy patrolling Four Corners watched a vehicle travel in the middle of the roadway on Cypremort Road and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle slowed down and the deputy observed the front passenger get out and flee into a sugarcane field near Jacob Lane, Hebert said.
The vehicle then continued to drive away from the deputy before coming to a stop on Cypremort Road. The driver was identified as Williams. The deputy received consent to search the vehicle and located a suspected rock of crack cocaine and a razor blade with white residue on it, Hebert said. Williams was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set. The identity of the passenger in the vehicle remains under investigation. 
—Prakasharao Nudugunda Venkata Surya, 47, of the 5300 block of Gulfway Drive in Groves, Texas, was arrested at 12:41 a.m. today for disturbing the peace intoxicated. A deputy on patrol in Amelia responded to a request to remove a person from a residence on Martin Lane. The deputy located the subject on Lake Palourde Road and identified him as Surya. During the investigation, the complainant stated that Surya refused to leave the property after being asked multiple times to do so. Surya was taken to the parish jail and held. Bail is set at $500. 
Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrest:
—Frank James, 50, of Lockport, was arrested at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday for driving under suspension and speeding.
While on patrol an officer working radar in the area of La. 182 and Aycock Street stopped a vehicle which was observed exceeding the speed limit. The driver, James, was found to be operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. He was taken to the Morgan City Police Department and held. 
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
