Child killed, several injured after vehicle strikes house

Tony Milligan

Shortly before 2:30 a.m. today, a 2-year-old child was killed and three others injured when a vehicle traveled into a house after it attempted to flee the scene of a crash on La. 24 in Terrebonne Parish, state police said.
Trooper Evan Harrell, State Police Troop C spokesman, said a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Tony Milligan, 20, of Houma, was traveling south on La. 24 in the left lane, just north of the Lost Bridge in Terrebonne Parish when it hit a 2014 Honda Accord from behind. The Honda was being driven by Bao Luu, 20, of Houma.
Harrell said after the crash, the Silverado fled the scene and continued south on La. 24 toward Lost Bridge. As the Silverado approached the bridge, it lost control and traveled off the left side of La. 24 where it struck a house at 1727 West Main Street.
Several occupants were inside the residence including the three injured individuals: Taylor Strickland, 2; Brittany Strickland, 24; and Lance Strickland, 25, all of Gray. Taylor Strickland suffered serious injuries and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital where she later died due to her injuries, Harrell said. Brittany and Lance Strickland also were transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital where they remain in stable condition, he added.
Milligan, who was not wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries and was transported to Thibodaux Regional. Luu, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the initial crash.
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, Harrell said. Blood was taken from Milligan and the test results are pending at the Louisiana State Police crime lab. Milligan was arrested and booked into the Terrebonne Parish Jail on the charges of vehicular homicide, careless operation and no seat belt. The crash remains under investigation.
