A 42-year-old St. Martinville man who was arrested for stealing a vehicle was additionally charged after he admitted to destroying documents related to his arrest, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Norris P. Touchet, 42, of St. Martinville, was arrested at 9:33 a.m. Wednesday for obstruction of justice and injuring public records.
Touchet, who was being booked on a theft of vehicle warrant at the police department, was charged with injuring public records and obstruction of justice after Touchet was discovered to have obtained documents related to his arrest. Touchet later admitted to destroying the documents, Banks said. He was jailed.
Banks reported the following arrests:
—Latifha R. Friels, 21, of Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:06 a.m. today on a warrant for simple battery and a warrant for disturbing the peace.
An officer observed a vehicle without a license plate displayed and stopped the vehicle to investigate. The driver, Friels, was jailed.
—Ryan T. Morvant, 22, of Francis Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:12 a.m. Wednesday for improper turning and on a warrant for possession of marijuana.
An officer observed a vehicle fail to signal a left turn properly and stopped to investigate. The driver, Morvant, was jailed.
—Otis A. Welsh, 40, of Tiffany Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 9:02 a.m. Wednesday for driving under suspension, stop sign violation and on a warrant from St. Charles Parish for a traffic violation.
An officer observed a vehicle fail to negotiate a stop sign at the intersection of Freret Street near Federal Avenue and stopped the vehicle to investigate. The driver, Welsh, was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. He was jailed.
—Donald L. Barrow, 34, of Canary Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:38 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear for no driver’s license and one headlight.
Officers located Barrow in the area of Duke and Ninth streets. Barrow was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 29 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Ashley Francois, 27, of the 100 block of St. Clair Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:42 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear for a drug court status hearing and failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court on the charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. A deputy located Francois at a business on Brashear Avenue on the warrant. Francois was jailed with bail set at $100,000.
—Garrett Dugas, 24, of the 1000 block of Bayou Drive in Pierre Part, was arrested at 12:16 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. A deputy transported Dugas to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center from the Assumption Parish jail. No bail is set.
—Deborah Bourgeois, 25, of the 900 block of East Second Street in Larose, was arrested at 5:17 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of theft of goods. Bourgeois was turned in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville on the warrant. No bail is set.
—Jessica Abshire, 18, of the 400 block of Shell Beach Road in Pierre Part, was arrested at 7:13 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of speeding. A deputy made contact with Abshire during a traffic stop on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista. The deputy learned that Abshire had an active warrant for her arrest. She was jailed and later released on $324.50 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—John Finister V, 21, of Chris Lane in Centerville, was arrested at 5:05 p.m. Wednesday on Franklin police warrants for theft more than $500 but less than $1,500, theft more than $1,500, and on two warrants for criminal trespass. He was released on $12,000 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
