Three people were arrested in a drug bust in Patterson after narcotics detectives found marijuana in a vehicle on U.S. 90, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Taylor R. Brown, 18, of the 400 block of Mike Drive in Patterson, was charged with distribution of marijuana, violation of a controlled dangerous substance law (drug free zone), contributing to the delinquency of juveniles and possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Trevor I. Thomas, 24, of the 400 block of Mike Drive in Patterson, is charged with distribution of marijuana, violation of a controlled dangerous substance law (drug free zone), contributing to the delinquency of juveniles, possession of drug paraphernalia and a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of open container.
—A juvenile male, 16, of Patterson was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and violation of a controlled dangerous substance law (drug free zone).
Narcotics detectives were traveling on U.S. 90 in Patterson when they observed a vehicle turn into the median without signaling. Detectives conducted a traffic stop on Veterans Drive and made contact with the occupants of the vehicle.
Detectives received consent to search the vehicle from the driver, Brown. Detectives located a marijuana cigarette, a cigar wrap, a small bag of marijuana and a larger bag of marijuana in the vehicle, Hebert said. Detectives learned that Brown and Thomas purchased the marijuana and had given one of the bags to the juvenile who intended to sell the illegal drug, Hebert said. All three were arrested at 7:30 p.m. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings. Brown and Thomas were jailed with no bail set.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 28 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
A 27-year-old Bayou Vista woman was arrested Wednesday for criminal abandonment after St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies found two children alone at a Bayou Vista residence, Hebert said.
—Susana Hernandez, 27, of the 200 block of Southwest Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 12:24 p.m. Wednesday for two counts of criminal abandonment. On Sunday morning, the sheriff’s office received an anonymous tip that two juveniles had been left home, alone at the above listed address without adult supervision, Hebert said.
Deputies went to the address and located two juveniles, a 6-year-old boy and 9-year-old girl, alone at the residence. The children were turned over to the custody of the Office of Child Services. Deputies located Hernandez at her residence and transported her to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City in reference to the case. Hernandez admitted to deputies that she knowingly left her children at home unattended. She was jailed with no bail set.
—Wayne Menendez, 50, of the 400 block of Ida Street in Franklin, was arrested at 4:31 p.m. Wednesday for domestic abuse battery and disturbing the peace. A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance that took place at a residence in Bayou Vista. The deputy learned that Menendez pushed a female victim and broke her mobile phone during an argument, Hebert said. Menendez was jailed with no bail set.
—Naomi Courville, 36, of the 400 block of Bush Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:13 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant from Terrebonne Parish for issuing worthless checks. A deputy located Courville at her residence on the warrant. She was transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. Courville was released on a $500 bail.
—Kerry Ventress, 32, of the 200 block of Prairie Road N in Verdunville, was arrested at 3:06 a.m. on a warrant for theft of goods. A deputy located Ventress at his residence on the warrant. Ventress was jailed and released on $1,000 bail.
Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests:
—Carl J. Thibodeaux, 26, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:59 p.m. Wednesday on a Montgomery County, Texas, Sheriff’s Office warrant for theft, possession of marijuana and illegal carrying of a weapon.
Detectives received information that a wanted fugitive from Montgomery County, Texas, was staying at a La. 182 residence, Crouch said. Thibodeaux was located at the residence and placed under arrest on the outstanding warrant. He was jailed in Morgan City and is awaiting extradition to Texas.
—Devan N. Serpa, 28, of Glenwood Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear for resisting an officer and a warrant for failure to appear for disturbing the peace.
Serpa was located at a Glenwood Street residence and jailed.
—Mashane K. Charles, 24, of Leona Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:32 p.m. Wednesday for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license and improper child restraint.
Officers were dispatched to the area of Brashear Avenue regarding a complaint of someone traveling in a vehicle with a child passenger not properly restrained. Officers located the vehicle and the driver, Charles, who was advised of the complaint. Charles was jailed. The child who was not properly restrained was released to family members, Crouch said.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
