A 25-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were arrested Saturday on prostitution charges after officers conducted an investigation at a motel in Morgan City, Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch said in a news release.
—Xavier Hudgins, 25, of Little Rock, Ark., was arrested at 11:50 a.m. Saturday for inciting prostitution, resisting an officer by providing false information.
—Morgan A. Young, 30, of Jacksonville, Ark., was arrested at 1:45 p.m. Saturday for attempted prostitution, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance-hydrocodone.
Officers acted of a tip that a wanted person was staying at a motel and proceeded to the motel to investigate. Officers located the people in question and identified them as Hudgins and Young. Officers detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the room and detained the subjects for questioning. Officers determined that Young was committing acts of prostitution with the assistance of Hudgins, Crouch said.
Hudgins initially provided officers with false information. Officers secured a search warrant for the motel room and during the search located suspected marijuana, paraphernalia and hydrocodone which were identified as belonging to Young, Crouch said. Both were jailed.
Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests:
—Thomas A. Pierce, 43, of Gen. MacArthur Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:22 a.m. Sunday for domestic abuse battery.
Officers responded to a Gen. MacArthur Street residence and were advised by a female that Pierce had struck her several times in the face during a domestic argument, Crouch said. The victim had minor injuries, Crouch said. Pierce was jailed.
—Schyler A. Stelly, 19, of Gen. MacArthur Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:18 p.m. Saturday for possession of marijuana.
—Jonathan J. William, 26, of Duval Street in Amelia, was arrested at 12:18 p.m. Saturday for possession of marijuana and stop sign violation.
An officer stopped a suspicious vehicle and its driver, William. The officer detected the odor of suspected marijuana. A narcotics canine was utilized and a search was made of the vehicle. A hand-rolled cigarette containing suspected marijuana was located, Crouch said. Stelly and William were jailed.
—George D. Panikacheri, 67, of Fourth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:04 p.m. Saturday for simple battery.
Officers were summoned to a local supermarket in regards to problems with a male subject. Officers arrived and were directed to the subject identified as Panikacheri. Officers were advised that the subject grabbed an employee by the hand, kissing it. The employee attempted to pull away as the subject grabbed the victim by the neck and kissed her face. Panikacheri was jailed.
—Salgado Ramiro, 36, of Bayou Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:19 p.m. Saturday for no driver’s license, no license plate illumination, and no insurance.
An officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation near the intersection of La. 182 and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The driver, Ramiro, was discovered not to have a valid driver’s license or motor vehicle insurance. He was jailed.
—William C. Enmanuel, 26, of New York, was arrested at 10:47 a.m. Sunday for appearing intoxicated in public. Officers were summoned to a La. 182 convenience store in regard to an intoxicated person. Officers located Enmanuel, who was lying on the ground and appeared impaired. He was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 126 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Irvin Ramos, 23, of the 100 block of Shady Grove in Patterson, was arrested at 11:31 p.m. Friday for driving while intoxicated third offense, careless operation and driving under suspension. A deputy travelling west across the U.S. 90 bridge at Morgan City watched a vehicle swerve onto the shoulder of the roadway twice and initiated a traffic stop.
He was jailed. No bail is set.
—James Wilkie Jr., 51, of the 300 block of Neptune Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 1:29 p.m. Friday on a warrant from Lafayette Parish for failure to appear on the charge of theft of goods. A deputy received information that Wilkie, who was wanted on the warrant, was on Jupiter Street in Bayou Vista. Wilkie was jailed. No bail is set.
