A Morgan City man was charged with cocaine possession after being brought to jail on a variety of traffic offenses.
Francisco Garces, 25, of Morgan City, was arrested at 1:37 a.m. today for two tail lamps required, driving under suspension, switched license plate and possession of cocaine.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said officers observed a vehicle being driven east on La. 182 at Duke Street with only one tail light. Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and came into contact with Garces, who was jailed.
During inventory of Garces’ personal property at the jail, officers discovered a clear baggie with a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine, Banks said. A test was conducted which yielded a positive result for cocaine, Banks said.
Banks reported the following arrests:
—Sabrina Voisin, 30, of Morgan City, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for theft of goods value $32.
Voisin turned herself in for booking. According to the warrant, Voisin committed a theft of clothing from a local drug store. She was jailed.
—Andrea Johnson, 36, of Gray, was arrested at 5:54 p.m. Wednesday for theft of goods.
Police were dispatched to an area supermarket where management said they observed Johnson placing items into her purse, Banks said. She had various food items valued at $10.78. Johnson was jailed.
—Tracy Silvia, 49, of Morgan City, was arrested at 8:17 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to comply with conditions of drug court. Police were dispatched to Halsey Street in regard to a complaint and came into contact with Silvia. During the course of the investigation it was found that Silvia was wanted by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office on a warrant. Silvia was jailed.
—Robert Parker, 33, of Berwick, was arrested at 9:32 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for probation violation and warrant for failure to appear to pay probation fees. Parker was transferred from the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center and jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
