3 unrestrained teens seriously injured after being ejected from a vehicle in Assumption Parish
Belle Rose, La. -- Three teens were seriously injured after they were ejected from a vehicle when it overturned on La. 70 in Assumption Parish shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, Louisiana State Police reported in a new release.
The investigation revealed that a 2014 Nissan Sentra was traveling west on La. 70 in Assumption Parish. The crash occurred after the Sentra passed another vehicle in a curved, no-passing zone, portion of La. 70, police stated. The Sentra made a quick evasive action back into the westbound lane of La. 70 and traveled off the right side of the roadway, police stated. The Sentra began to rotate as it traveled through a ditch and finally overturned, police stated.
All three occupants, who were unrestrained, were ejected from the vehicle as it overturned.
Police identified the occupants of the vehicle as Alaina Landry, 18 of Pierre Part, Brandy Landry, 17 of Labadieville, and Katie Metzler, 18 of Pierre Part.
Due to the fact that all the occupants were unrestrained and received serious injuries after being ejected, the investigation is ongoing to determine which teen was driving the Sentra, police stated.
Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, police stated. Alcohol use is unknown at this time, and this crash remains under investigation, police stated.
