LSU linebacker and Patterson High School alum Lorenzo Phillips has left LSU for academic reasons and enrolled in East Mississippi Community College with hopes of one day returning to LSU, according to a report by The Advocate.
Phillips, a third-string weakside linebacker, saw action in nine games in 2013 and recorded four tackles.
East Mississippi Community College won the 2013 junior college national championship as well as a title in 2011.
The redshirt freshman was not the only Tiger to depart recently as defensive backs Jerqwinick Sandolph and Derrick Raymond and offensive lineman Derek Edinburgh Jr. all have left LSU, Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette told The Advocate.
