Cleco power outage affected nearly 700
A power outage affected about 680 customers south of U.S. 90 in Patterson Wednesday evening.
Cleco spokeswoman Robbyn Cooper said the outage began around 5:50 p.m. and ended about 6:30 p.m.
The outage was due to the failure of a lightning arrestor, she said. While there was no bad weather in the area at the time of the outage, Cooper said Cleco believes it previously had been struck by lightning, weakening the equipment.
Lightning arrestors are used to attract lightning during thunderstorms to prevent it from actually striking the electrical system, Cooper said.
