City parade, lighting ceremony tonight
The lamplighters will be revealed tonight at the city’s Christmas parade and lamp lighting ceremony.
Bands, student groups, local pageant royalty and plenty of golf carts will kick off the Christmas season in Franklin.
Golf cart drivers, residents and groups should bring their flashlights and meet at 5:30 p.m. at the corner of Jackson and Main streets to line up. Walkers and golf cart drivers will leave from there and make a right onto Main Street at 6 p.m., a left onto Willow Street, loop around the back of the Courthouse and stop at the Courthouse square for the lamp-lighting ceremony.
Spectators are encouraged to bring their flashlights, line up along the route and meet the parade at the courthouse square for the ceremony.
The night will be filled with unique touches. The City of Franklin will provide a trolley for rides down Main Street and along Bayou Teche. Chez Hope will sell funnel cakes and hot chocolate inside the Blevins garage. The Teche Theatre will present the Magic of the Crescent Circus beginning at 8 p.m.
Main Street merchants will have special hours and sales, and eateries in the downtown Franklin area will host special events. Contact merchants or restaurants in the downtown area for more information about their particular events.
