Children's Village offers many fun events

Events for the youngest festival-goers will be numerous this weekend.

Saturday is Children’s Day at the festival and kicks off with games and field events at 9 a.m. in Lawrence Park.

Children of all ages can take part in games such as foot races and potato sack races for small prizes.

That will be followed at 11 a.m. by the children’s parade during which prizes will be awarded for the best decorated floats (bicycles, wagons, carts and costumes). The event is sponsored by the family of Oliver and Marion Bergeron, and Sewart Supply.

The Children’s Village, sponsored by J. Ray McDermott, Teche Regional Medical Center and BP, opens at 11:30 a.m. Saturday through Monday in Lawrence Park.

Children’s Village is an enclosed area featuring a bounce house, games, activities and lots of prizes for each child.

The Audubon Institute Wetlands Wildlife Express and the Audubon Institute Zoo Mobile will be part of the Children’s Village offerings Saturday as well. They will be located in the park.

Also in the park, but not directly associated with the Children’s Village, will be Aqua Balls.

The water-walking balls for children are an activity in which children can run, roll and spin around on top of the water in an inflated bubble while staying dry.

In addition, the Guy Harvey Mobile Express will be offering T-shirts and educational material.
