Child, 10, in hospital after being struck by car

A 10-year-old child is in the hospital healing after being struck by a car Tuesday in Morgan City in an accident police called “unavoidable.”

Although the child was admitted to Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City, his condition was not immediately available this morning. Police said this morning he was “doing fine.”

Around 5 p.m., witnesses said a slow-moving vehicle struck the child who tried to cross the street ahead of the car on Victor II Boulevard in front of First Baptist Church in Morgan City. Another child with the victim did make it across the street safely, Morgan City Police Chief Marc Folse said.

No citations were issued in the incident.

The MCPD reported the following arrests, Folse said:

—Heaven Daigle, 19, of Arenz Street, Morgan City at 8:56 p.m. Tuesday for possession of drug paraphernalia and turning without a signal. No bond information was available this morning.

—Carlise Tiara Grogan, 21, of Sixth Street, Morgan City at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday on a bench warrant for theft. Incarcerated in lieu of $495 bond.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Department arrested the following Tuesday, according to Sheriff Mark Hebert:

—Tyler Guerin, 17, of Carol Road, Bayou Vista, at his residence at 9:58 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant for criminal damage to property. Deputies responded to a complaint of vehicle damage on July 16. This is the fourth arrest in the case of egging of Bayou Vista homes earlier this month. He was later released on a $500 bond.

—Nina Morgan, 30, of Rosepark Lane, Bayou Vista, arrested at her home at 10:14 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for issuing worthless checks. Issued a summons to appear in court.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard this morning reported the following arrested in the previous 24-hour period:

—Gregory Parker, 17, Oregon Street, Berwick, arrested at 10:29 p.m. Tuesday at his home, charged with second offense disturbing the peace. His mother wanted him to leave and he didn’t. He remained incarcerated in lieu of a $160 bond.

—Raynel Watts, 35, Levee Road, Morgan City; Kendall Rochelle, 23, Fifth Street, Berwick; and Fabian Bartley, 22, Oregon Street, Berwick each were charged at 3:51 p.m. Tuesday under the bridge on Third Street in Berwick with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a drug-free zone and possession of marijuana. They each remained incarcerated awaiting bond.
