CAA kicks off adopt a family initiative
In the spirit of sharing and thanksgiving, St. Mary Community Action Agency is giving back to the people of the communities in which it serves.
This year the ultimate goal is to make the holiday season just a bit brighter with gifts and food for 100 community families.
The goal is attainable, but the public’s help is needed to make this a successful event. The agency is asking everyone in St. Mary, Lower St. Martin, and Vermilion parishes to unite in order to help make the holidays most joyous for these families in need.
“We want to put the ‘Merry’ back in Merry Christmas, and assist with the needs of the people we serve and work to help,” said CAA chief Executive Office Almetra Franklin.
St. Mary CAA’s Adopt a Family Program is in its 10th year and continues to grow bigger. Sponsorships can be provided with a minimal donation of $50 per child or $100 per family or through a combined donation with other fellow sponsors.
“Imagine how happy the New Year will be, knowing you played a part in bringing joy to someone’s family,” Franklin said. “Will you join us this season, and help us bless someone’s life?”
Each sponsored family will receive clothing, a gift per child, and a food basket; all donations are welcomed and accepted. All families will be selected based on an application process demonstrating need.
The agency will present gifts to the selected families on Tuesday, Dec. 13, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Peter Pan Head Start gymnasium in Franklin. Sponsors will be invited to present their gifts to their adopted family.
“There is no greater gift than giving love through actions from the heart,” Franklin said.
The deadline date for submissions is Nov. 30. Please make all checks and money orders payable to St. Mary CAA, and mail donations to: 1407 Barrow St., Franklin, La 70538. If you have any questions or concerns please call (337) 828-5703 and ask for Linda Moreaux, coordinator, or Toni Eastling, Sheryl Doiron and Summers Jones, co-coordinators.
