BHPA holds City Tournament

PATTERSON — The Bayou Horseshoe Pitcher’s City Championships were held Sept. 22 at Kemper Williams Park near Patterson.

Winners were awarded in Classes A, B and C in Singles’ competition and in Classes A and B in Doubles’ play.

Additionally, Angela Percle of Morgan City was crowned Tournament and City Champion in Singles’ play, while Percle and Jimmy Percle, also of Morgan City, combined for the Doubles’ Tournament and City Championships crown.

In Singles’ competition, Class A finishers were, Angela Percle of Morgan City, first with a 7-0 record and a 53 percent ringer mark; Dudley Michel of Bayou Vista, second, 5½-1½, 50; and O.J. Cole of Centerville, third, 5½- 1½, 37.

In Class B, Dale Pearce of Bayou Vista finished first with a 6-1 mark and a 40.4 percent ringer mark, while Judy Doré finished second with a 5½-1½ record and a 33.8 ringer mark. Jimmy Percle of Morgan City was third with a 4½-2½ record and 32.5 ringer mark.

In Class C, Karl Vaughn of Bayou L’Ourse was 6-1 with a 26.3 ringer mark for first, while Ike Chavalia of Houma, second, 5-2, 32.9; and Glen Miller of Belle River, third, 5-2, 28.8.

Because Percle, Vaughn and Pearce had won their brackets, they advanced to a round-robin playoff to determine the Singles City Tournament Champion.

Percle came out on top with a 2-0 mark and a 47.5 ringer mark, while Karl Vaughn was second with a 1-1 mark and 23.8 ringer mark and Dale Pearce, third, 0-2, 30.

In Doubles action, the team of Angela Percle and Jimmy Percle finished first with a 5-1 record and a 35.7 ringer mark, while O.J. Cole and Gerald Prados, both of Centerville, finished second with a 4-2 record and 31.7 ringer mark.

The first- and second-place finishers had to be determined in a 50-shoe playoff after both teams finished tied after regulation.

In Class B Doubles action, the duo of Dale Pearce of Bayou Vista and Glenn Miller of Belle River finished first with a 4-1 record and a 29.2 ringer percentage.

Dwain Arceneaux and Brent Rodrigue, both of Thibodaux, finished second with a 3-2 record and a 16.8 ringer mark.

The doubles champion was determined after much action.

After an initial round-robin was held, the top two teams met in a four-way round robin.

At the conclusion of play, three teams were tied with two wins each, forcing another round robin.

The Percles defeated Pearce/Miller and then defeated Arceneaux/Rodrigue, who had drawn a bye, for the championship.

The Percles finished with a 4-1 record in the playoff rounds with a 37.6 ringer percentage, while Arceneaux/Rodrigue took second with a 2-2 record and 19.5 ringer mark.

Pearce/Miller took third with a 2-2 mark and 22 ringer mark, while Cole/Prados rounded out the finishers in fourth-place with an 0-3 record and 30 percent ringer mark.
