Berwick man charged with striking deputy in parish prison

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:

—Mario John Gross Jr., 25, of Oregon Street in Berwick, was arrested at 4:51 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for battery of a correctional facility employee. Gross struck a deputy in the face while deputies were conducting a check of the inmates, the report stated. No bail has been set.

—Sheryl Davis Skinner, 49, of Pluto Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 8:29 a.m. Tuesday at Polaris Street and Middle Road on warrants for four counts of issuing worthless checks. A deputy patrolling the Bayou Vista area observed a vehicle fail to come to a complete stop at a stop sign and conducted a traffic stop. During the course of the investigation, the deputy learned of the warrants for Skinner’s arrest. She was released on a summons to appear in court on Feb. 27, 2013.

—Zachary M. Grizzaffi, 24, of Watkins Street in Berwick, was arrested at 11:58 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant for two counts of issuing worthless checks. A deputy located Grizzaffi at his residence on the warrant. He was released on a summons to appear in court on Feb. 27, 2013.

—Elmer Daniel Vijil Reyes, 18, of Village Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 1:56 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista for operating a vehicle without lawful presence in the United States. A deputy responded to a complaint of a vehicle parked in the median of U.S. 90. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Reyes who was unable to produce a driver’s license. During the course of the investigation, the deputy learned that Reyes was not in the United States legally. Reyes was booked and jailed in the parish jail. No bail has been set.

—Gia Marie Nini Dardeau, 28, of Neptune Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 2:32 p.m. Tuesday on charges of theft, resisting an officer by giving false information and on warrants for failure to appear on the charges of theft, issuing worthless checks, two counts of speeding and on a warrant from Morgan City police for failure to appear on the charge of probation violation.

—Rachel Stasiowski Adams, 28, of Patton Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:32 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of theft.

A deputy patrolling the Amelia area responded to a shoplifting complaint at Walmart in Bayou Vista. Upon arrival, the deputy learned from store security that Dardeau and Adams were observed placing merchandise in their purses and switching bar codes on items, the report stated. Adams was released on a summons to appear in court on Feb. 27, 2013. Dardeau was booked and jailed. No bail has been set.

—Victor Manuel MoTezuma Mendez, 35, of Carriage Cove Lane in Ricohoc, was arrested at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of domestic abuse battery. A deputy patrolling the Charenton area responded to a complaint of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival the deputy learned that Mendez grabbed the female victim. Mendez was booked and placed in the parish jail. No bail has been set.

—Caleb A. Guerrero, 22, of Cali Lane Lot 6 in Patterson, was arrested at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for possession of marijuana.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division detectives located Guerrero at a Patterson business on the warrant. Guerrero was released on a summons to appear in court on Feb. 27, 2013.

—A juvenile female, 13, was arrested at 9:08 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant for simple burglary.

—A juvenile male, 13, was arrested at 9:47 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant for simple burglary.

—A juvenile male, 13, was arrested at 10:04 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant for simple burglary.

On Nov. 6, a deputy responded to a complaint of a burglary at a pumping station located on Michael Drive in Franklin. Upon arrival, the deputy learned from the complainant that several raincoats had been taken and that an excavator window had been broken. Using surveillance images taken at the scene, the deputy identified several juveniles. The juveniles were released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings. Seven juveniles have been arrested for their involvement in the break-in.

Assistant Chief Glenn Blanco of the Morgan City Police Department reported the following arrests:

—Martaisha Brown, 28, of Levee Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday, and charged with warrants for disturbing the peace and criminal trespassing. Brown was booked and released after posting a $634 bail.

Antonio Collins, 50, of Cherry Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:35 p.m. Tuesday and charged with simple criminal damage to property. Morgan City police were called to Brashear Avenue in reference to damage to property. Upon arrival, they learned that Collins had allegedly cut a tire on a 2003 Dodge Van. He was located at his residence on Cherry Street and arrested. Collins was booked and released after posting $492 bail.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
