Berwick man arrested for domestic abuse

BERWICK, La. — Police say a Berwick man was arrested for domestic abuse and violation of a protective order.

Dex Michael Clements, 27, of the 2000 block of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 2:19 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for domestic abuse battery (strangulation), aggravated battery and violation of a protective order, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.

A deputy located Clements at his residence. The warrant stems from an investigation into a report of domestic abuse. The victim held an active protective order against Clements.

He remains jailed with no bail set.

Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:

—Sandra Savell Barr, 56, of the 600 block of Prairie Road in Franklin, was arrested at 8:14 p.m. Tuesday for theft of goods. Deputies were called by personnel at a Bayou Vista store after Barr was seen leaving the store without paying for items she placed in her purse. She was released on a summons to appear in court Dec. 11.

—Sandra Lasseigne Cormier, 45, of the 1400 block of Beachmont Drive in Lake Charles, was arrested at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday for driving while intoxicated second offense, driving left of center, possession of a Schedule I narcotic (marijuana) and possession of an open alcoholic container in a motor vehicle. A deputy responded to a report of a reckless driver on U.S. 90 in the Patterson area. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after watching the driver cross onto the shoulder of the roadway several times. Cormier performed poorly on the field sobriety test and refused to take a breath test, Hebert said. She remained jailed this morning with no bail set.

Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests:

—Delshone Leon Maryland, 27, of Hammond, was arrested on Tuesday on a hold for the Hammond Police Department after a traffic stop in the area of Brashear and Federal avenues. Maryland was wanted on an outstanding warrant for driving under suspension. He was released after posting bail.

—Curtis R. Robinson, 43, of Fourth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:04 p.m. Tuesday for appearing in public intoxicated. Officers were flagged down in the area of Fifth and Everett streets because of a man causing a disturbance. Officers located Robinson, who appeared intoxicated, Hebert said. He refused to comply with officer requests to stop the disturbance and was placed under arrest, Hebert said. Robinson remained jailed this morning with no bail set.

—Michael A. Pineda, 17, of Metairie, was arrested at 5:13 a.m. today for no driver’s license and improper lane usage. Officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle after it was observed swerving in the roadway near Sixth Street in Morgan City. Pineda remained jailed this morning with no bail set.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:

—Patrick Vining Jr., 18, of the 4000 block of Francis Street in Berwick, was arrested at 10:44 a.m. Tuesday at his home for disturbing the peace. He remained jailed this morning on $150 bail.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
