Berwick Lady Panthers will travel to Crowley

Berwick High School will travel to Crowley today to face Crowley High School in Class 3A regional softball action.
Berwick, the No. 9 seed, defeated No. 24 seed Jewel Sumner, 3-1, in first-round action Tuesday at home.
Crowley, the No. 8 seed, knocked off No. 25 seed Livonia in five innings Monday.
“Crowley’s record against the quality of the opponents they played is an indication that they are a very good softball team,” Berwick coach Lloyd Burchfield said this morning. “According to a few coaches I talked to, they are solid and will not beat themselves. We will probably have to play our best game of the year to win today.”
However, Burchfield said his squad is a “capable” one.
“If we can get a strong pitching performance today, I believe we will win,” he said.
In Tuesday’s win against Jewel Sumner, the Lady Panthers’ bats were quiet until a three-run outburst in the sixth inning with two outs. The inning included a triple by Abigail Ohlin, who signed with LSU Eunice Wednesday, and run-scoring doubles by Megan Fabre and Shelby Bergeron.
Prior to the sixth inning, the Lady Panthers were challenged by Sumner pitcher Kristie Sanchez, who had just four hits heading into the sixth inning.
The Lady Panthers also got a strong performance from their pitcher, Shelby Bergeron.
Today’s game will be played at Crowley High School. First pitch is set for 6 p.m., and a $6 admission will be charged.
