Berwick High School

Berwick High School is honoring nine students who earned 4.0 grade point averages throughout their high school careers.

They will be among 116 seniors graduating at 7 p.m. Thursday in Geisler Stadium.

Sarah Dean Barbier is the daughter of Gene and Diana Barbier. She has been an active member of Key Club and drama club for four years and Foreign Language Club and the tennis team for three years. She also served as president of her junior class.

She will be attending the University of Louisiana at Monroe to major in radiation therapy.

Alexis Nicole Kates is the daughter of Bruce and Carla Kates. She has been a member of student council for four years where she served as class president for three years and as senior executive president her senior year. She has been a member of the softball team for four years, volleyball team for three years, track for two years and the cheerleading squad for four years serving as captain her senior.

She was a Louisiana Youth Seminar delegate during the past two summers and was a member of Beta Club, Foreign Language Club, Relay for Life and Key Club.

Kates is an eighth degree Wisecat and a seventh degree Powercat. She will be attending Louisiana State University where she plans to major in sociology with an emphasis on behavioral analysis. Her long term goal is to work for the FBI in the Behavioral Analysis Unit.

Shelby Lynn Lancon is the daughter of Wayne Lancon and Bobbye Jo “B.J.” Castaneda. She was a member of drama club, Beta Club, and swim team all four years and she received the Academic All-State Composite Award for swim. She played tennis for two years and served as vice-president and secretary for Student Council. She has been a Wisecat for three-and-half years and a Powercat for four years.

Lancon is an active member of the Holy Cross Youth Group and was selected for the Diocesan Youth Leadership Award. She plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Monroe to major in pharmacy with a minor in toxicology.

Patrick Santiago Macklin is the son of Mary and Martin Macklin. He is a member of the Sound of Pride band and is the recipient of a University of Louisiana at Monroe band scholarship and music talent scholarship. He also was awarded the St. Mary Industrial Group scholarship. He was accepted last summer for a competitive position in the summer SCORE program at Loyola. He received the Senior Science Award for outstanding academic accomplishments and the Academically Gifted Award.

Macklin will be attending the University of Louisiana at Monroe on a full scholarship. He plans to major in toxicology and go on to pursue a Doctorate with hopes of a career in scientific research.

Shereen Nicole Richard is the daughter of Melanie and Fereale Richard of Bayou Vista. She has received various awards and recognitions in swim team, dance team, band and tennis. She served as president of the Sound of Pride and participated in several honor bands.

Richard also served as Student Council president for two years and executive vice president for two years. She is an 8th degree Powercat and Wisecat. She participated at the state level in swim for four years and in tennis for two years.

She is Berwick High School’s Student of the Year. Richard’s future plans are to attend Our Lady of the Lake College in Baton Rouge to major in biology and then to continue on to become a physician’s assistant or a doctor.
