Berwick falls short to E.D. White
BERWICK — The Berwick Lady Panthers hung tough with Division III power E.D. White in two of three of their games in the teams’ district match Monday but could not overcome their visitors from Thibodaux as they fell 3-0 (9-25, 20-25, 24-26) in district action.
Senior Elizabeth Hover led the Lady Panthers with nine kills, four assists, two digs and two blocks. Fellow senior Abigail Ohlin added three kills, two assists and 10 digs.
Other Lady Panthers contributors included Abigail Askew, four kills and two blocks; Rebecca Richard, two kills, two digs and six assists; Celeste Bowers, two assists, one ace and three digs; and Diana Grace Guarisco, two aces and four digs.
With the loss, Berwick falls to 6-16 overall and 2-4 in district play. The squad will return to action Wednesday when it travels to face Patterson in a district contest. Junior varsity action will begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by varsity play at 5:30 p.m.
Central Catholic splits
Central Catholic split its games Saturday at Metairie Park Country Day’s Maggie Millet Invitational.
Central Catholic defeated the Academy of Sacred Heart–New Orleans, 25-13, 25-16, and fell to Mount Carmel, 18-25, 18-25.
Against Sacred Heart, Gee Garrett led Central Catholic with seven kills, two solo blocks and a block assist; Brie Hill added seven kills, a dig and two solo blocks; and Meo Knight, seven kills and two solo blocks.
Other top CCHS contributors included Caroline Byrne, 18 assists and an ace; Marie Templet, three aces and six digs; Olivia Crawford, three aces and four digs; and Celine Flores, eight digs.
Against Mount Carmel, Knight led CCHS with five kills, three digs and a solo block, while Hill added six kills and two solo blocks.
Other CCHS contributors included Garrett, five kills and a block assist; Byrne, 18 assists and an ace; Celine Flores, two kills, an ace, three digs and a solo block; and Abbie Bergeron, seven digs.
Central Catholic (18-9) will hold its Pink Game today when it hosts Houma Christian for a district contest. Freshman action will begin at 4 p.m., followed by junior varsity and varsity play.
