Bayou Vista bank robbery suspect arrested
BAYOU VISTA, La. — A 22-year-old Bayou Vista man wanted on a warrant for armed robbery at Teche Federal Bank in Bayou Vista on Saturday was arrested by St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s detectives Monday night with the help of Patterson police, according to a news release from St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert.
Torrell Wayne Tillman, 22, of Bayou Vista, was arrested at 11:36 p.m. Monday for armed robbery.
Around 8:40 a.m. Saturday, Tillman entered Teche Federal Bank on Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, Hebert stated. Claiming to possess an explosive device, Tillman demanded money from the teller, Hebert stated.
Tillman then left the bank with about $2,400 in cash and fled on foot, Hebert stated.
During an investigation, detectives developed Tillman as the suspect in the bank robbery, Hebert stated. A warrant for Tillman’s arrest was secured late Monday evening. Detectives located Tillman at his residence on Saturn Road in Bayou Vista.
With the assistance of the Patterson police, Tillman was transported to the Patterson Police Department where St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives made the arrest, Hebert stated. Tillman was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set. The investigation is ongoing, Hebert said.
