Artists invited to enter Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival-time judged show
MORGAN CITY, La. — Artists Guild Unlimited will hold the 50th anniversary of its annual Judged Show and Sale from Aug. 28 through Sept. 19.
The annual show is held at the Everett Street Gallery, 201 Everett St. in Morgan City. The show and sale displays original work by locals, as well as artists from around the state, in a variety of media — oils, acrylics, water media, pastels, mixed media, color photography and black and white photography, among others.
Artists of all ages are invited to participate in the show. Non-AGU member fees are $30 for the first three entries and $10 each per next three entries. Fees for teens and children are $6 per artist with maximum of three entries.
Substantial cash awards are offered, including adult category first place, $250; teen first place, $200; and both children’s categories, $200 each.
Additional cash prizes for second and third place and ribbons for first, second, third and honorable mention are offered as well. Any category or division with fewer than 10 artists will be judged but awarded ribbons only.
Early registration and submission of entries for members, handicapped and group entries greater than three will take place Aug. 21 through Aug. 23. All other entries are due from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 23 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 24.
Entries must be original, recent work. No copies, numbered prints or artwork previously shown at any judged AGU show will be accepted. All work must be properly framed and ready for hanging with wire hangers only. All entered work must be offered for sale, with the exception of teen and child entries.
The exhibit opens to the public Aug. 28 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will continue for those hours during the Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival through Sept. 2. The show continues from Sept. 4 through Sept. 19 during regular gallery hours, Wednesdays through Fridays, 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pictures of winners will be taken at the Participating Artists’ and Closing Reception Sept. 19, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., with children’s photos taken at 5 p.m.
Individuals and businesses can support the show and become a Purchase Award Patron by giving an amount of $50 upward, which will be applied to artwork of your choice at the private Purchase Award Reception prior to opening of the show.
