Anonymous tip leads to arrests in credit card theft investigation
MORGAN CITY, La. -- Two Amelia residents were arrested Friday for using a woman’s credit card lost July 28 at a gas station in the Amelia area, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
Erial Lightfoot, 30, and Payten Johnson, Jr., 34, both of 1152 Lakeview Drive, Amelia, La., were taken into custody at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City at 11:30 a.m. Friday for unauthorized use of an access card, Hebert said.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives located Lightfoot and Johnson after receiving an anonymous tip regarding the identity of two subjects, Hebert said.
Investigators believed the subjects had information regarding the use of a credit card taken from a wallet that had been reported missing, he said.
Lightfoot and Johnson were asked to come to the sheriff’s office in Morgan City and while speaking with detectives, both Lightfoot and Johnson admitted to using the victim’s credit card at two stores located in Bayou Vista and Morgan City, Hebert said.
Lightfoot is also charged with theft for taking the wallet, he said.
Both were transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. No bond is set.
