Community
center construction in Baldwin is moving along well, with the building taking
shape daily.
A report from Firmin Architects Ltd.
to the board of aldermen Thursday indicates the front façade is being installed
as well as lower panels on the back side of the building. Stainless steel
gutter work is proceeding, doorframes, exterior doors and roof insulation are
all on site awaiting installation. Steel wall framing should begin next week,
Firmin reported.
Also Thursday, the board:
—Approved reappointment of the Banner-Tribune as the town’s official
journal.
—Designated a 1987 GMC dump truck as
surplus property.
—Approved the fire department’s
annual $3,000 equipment allocation.
—Approved an occupational license for
Five Star Fuels LLC, on the Baldwin-Charenton Canal.
—Agreed to study, for next meeting, a
recommendation by Police Chief Gerald Minor to ask the state Department of
Transportation and Development to lower the 55 mph speed limit near the new
community center on La. 83. They also agreed to consider speed limit lowering
on Ralph Darden Memorial Parkway and the road in front of the new Raintree
Elementary School due to the school traffic expected. Those changes would only
be two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon.
